Bilawal-Nawaz meeting in jail today

11 Mar, 2019

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari arrived in the provincial capital on Sunday to meet former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat Jail today. After arriving Lahore, the PPP chairman held a meeting with the party leaders at Bilawal House and discussed in detail overall political situation of the country. Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani also attended the meeting. PPP Central Punjab president Qamar Zaman Kaira, Senator Mustafa Khokhar and Bilawal's political secretary Jameel Soomro will accompany Bilawal. Last week, the PPP had sent a request to the Punjab Home Department seeking permission to visit Nawaz.
Talking to the party leaders, sources said Bilawal was off the view that they will not let anyone become the victim of political victimization. "Accountability should be ensured without discrimination," he added while quoting Bilawal.
Meanwhile, PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira told media that although there was no political agenda of Bilawal's meeting with Nawaz but whenever "two political leaders sit, they definitely discuss politics". He said the objective of politics is creating ways, not closing doors.
Brushing aside the notion that the PPP and PML-N are joining hands against the PTI government, Kaira said they always supported the PTI government in national interest. "Prime Minister Imran Khan used to criticize us, but we always supported him," added Kaira while referring to recent Indian aggression.
"No doubt the medical condition of Nawaz Sharif is critical and everyone is worried about it," he said, adding that all the opponents of Nawaz want his proper medical check up. "I have no idea what advice the PPP chairman would give to Nawaz in jail," he added.
On Saturday, PPP Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar had said the only purpose of Bilawal's visit to the jail is to inquire after the health of Nawaz. He said the party was concerned over reports that the Punjab government was not providing required medical facilities to Nawaz who was facing multiple health problems including some cardiac issues. It may be noted that this will be for the first time that the leaders of the PPP and the PML-N, the two arch-rivals of the past, will be having a meeting in jail.
