Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) resolutions condemning Indian brutalities in Occupied Kashmir have endorsed the unanimous resolution passed by the joint sitting of the Parliament. While giving credit to the Parliament, the minister said, "We have achieved our goal by abstaining the OIC session held in Abu Dhabi, which Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj could not get by going there."
He said that it has been New Delhi's longstanding desire to become member of the OIC by using Muslim population living in India. He said Muslims live in Israel and Myanmar, but they cannot be offered membership of the platform meant for Muslim Ummah. He said if Israel cannot become member of OIC on the basis of its Muslim minority, India can also not be accepted in the forum.
He also informed the House that Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj is being questioned in her country over attending the OIC meeting. "Without my participating, we have achieved our goals," he said.
Earlier, the National Assembly passed "The Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2018" to facilitate Election Commission for constitution of more benches to effectively dispose of complaints/petitions/ appeals.
The bill moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan will amend the Elections Act, 2017. The Bill aimed at authorising the Election Commission to constitute a bench comprising three or more members of the commission to hear and decide complaints, applications, petitions or appeals.
The bill also authorises the commission to constitute more benches to effectively dispose of higher number of such complaints.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Zubaida Jalal also introduced "The Heavy Industries Taxila Board (Amendment) Bill, 2019" in the House.
