18 killed, 38 injured in torrential rains during four days

Flash floods triggered by winter rains killed at least 18 persons and injured 38 others over the past four days in the country, said National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday. According to the NDMA, the rains from March 1 to March 3 resulted in death of 18 people while 38 others got injured in several parts of the country.
According to a preliminary report compiled by the NDMA, which is based on information received from provincial disaster management authorities (PDMAs), flashfloods damaged over 2,596 houses. The report said that a total 12 people lost their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) of them nine belonged to erstwhile Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), while six people died in Balochistan.
The initial report of the NDMA said that some 2,546 houses were destroyed in Balochistan and 50 in KPK including 15 in erstwhile Fata. As per report, out of 36 injured people, 12 belong to Balochistan and 24 to KPK including 13 from erstwhile Fata.
The NDMA on behalf of the federal government provided 5,251 tents, 13,000 blankets, 20,000 plastic carpets and 2,500 tubs to the people in rains-hit areas of Balochistan. The NDMA also provided 10,000 ration packets, each weighing 42 kilograms, to the flood affectees of Balochistan.
Meanwhile, the NDMA also released an initial report of damages due to Indian firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in the border areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K). The report said that as a result of Indian firing on civilian population, at least five people were martyred and 32 got injured. The report further said that Indian firing damaged 42 houses.
In district Kotli of AJ&K, five people lost their lives as a result of Indian firing. Of 32 injured people, 18 belong to Kotli, 11 to district Poonch and three to district Bhimber. Out of 42 damaged houses, 24 were damaged in district Bhimber, one in district Haveli, eight in Jehlum valley and nine in district Poonch.
