Finland Govt interested to assist Pakistan in 10BTT

ISLAMABAD: The honorary counsellor of the consulate of Finland Asad Ansari Friday informed the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam that their government took keen interest to assist Pakistan in the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami project (10BTT).

The project was aimed at environment conservation and revival of the country’s forest cover for reducing effects of global warming, he said.

The Finnish counselor during a called on with the adviser to the prime minister on climate change, conveyed that the Embassy of Finland had lauded the unprecedented Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project, said a news release.

He also apprised the adviser that the government of the Republic of Finland had admired the environment conservation policy of the Prime Minister Imran Khan and welcomed his Eco-friendly and environmental protection initiative (10BTT).

He also expressed well wishes of Finland’s Ambassador to Malik Amin Aslam and his willingness to meet him in the coming month to finalizing terms of reference (TORs) for supporting the billion tree initiative.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam welcomed Finland’s interest in the 10BTT project.

He apprised Asad Ansari that under the anti-encroachment drive on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the incumbent government had recovered 2500 acres of land and the Prime Minister wanted to utilise the retrieved land for tree plantation.

Malik Amin Aslam remarked that once the term of references (TORs) were formally inked between the two governments, the Finnish Embassy would be allowed to plant trees.

However, the meeting between Adviser Malik Amin Aslam and Finland Ambassador had been scheduled next month to further elaborate and enhance cooperation and ensure confirmation of memorandum of understandings (MoUs).
