PPP Punjab slams Sindh Assembly Speaker's arrest

21 Feb, 2019

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab Secretary General Ch Manzoor Ahmed has condemned the arrest of Speaker Sindh Assembly by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). He said the arrest of Siraj Durrani is not a simple matter but a continuity of mutilating the sanctity of Sindh Assembly by the federal government. He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had earlier mutilated the sanctity of Sindh Assembly under the garb of scandal of fake accounts. This time, he added, the federal government has targeted the Sindh Assembly.
He said Speaker is the custodian of Sindh Assembly and the NAB has ignored legal formalities in his arrest. It is mandatory to bring into the notice of Speaker the arrest of any member of the assembly, he stressed.
Durrani was neither an absconder nor he had refused to join inquiry against him. His arrest from Islamabad may be detrimental to the federation, he warned.
He said the PTI was playing havoc with the federation and added that the NAB should refuse to become part of political engineering. He said the PPP would neither be blackmailed nor it would compromise on the 18th amendment.
