THE RUPEE: slight changes

The rupee showed slight changes against the dollar on the money market on Saturday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee did not move any side in terms of the dollar for buying at Rs 138.80, it however, fell by 10 paisas for selling at Rs 139.30, they said. The rupee, however, gained 80 paisas versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 158.20 and Rs 159.90 respectively, they said.
This week's Fed minutes, which underscored the US central bank's flexibility on monetary policy, triggered dollar selling that lifted the euro as high as $1.1581 and propelled it past a 100-day moving average for the first time in three months.

Following lack of buyers' interest in the market, the greenback gained 20 paisas and ended higher for buying and selling at Rs 138.50 and Rs 139.60 against the overnight closing trend of Rs 138.70 and Rs 139.60 respectively, local currency dealers said.
The local currency, however, maintained declining trend for the second consecutive day against the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates further improved from Friday's closing of Rs 176.00 and Rs 177.50 to Rs 176.60 and Rs 177.80 respectively, they added.
The dollar opened at Rs 138.90 (buying) and Rs 139.10 (selling) against last rate of Rs 138.85 (buying) and Rs 139.05 (selling). It closed at Rs 138.90 (buying) and Rs 139.10(selling).
The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs 67,800(selling) and Rs 67,5000 (buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
