Afghan government team meets JI chief

A delegation of the Afghan government led by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's special envoy and a former ambassador Umer Daudzai called on Emir Jamaat-e-Islami, Siraj-ul-Haq, in the federal capital on Friday and discussed ways and means to improve the situation in the region. The JI emir told the delegation that a peaceful Afghanistan is essential for regional peace and for this country. He said that the key to the peace in Afghanistan was with the Afghans themselves, says a press release issued here on Friday.
He further said that Pak- Afghan friendship was also necessary for economic development of the two countries. He stressed the need for talks between the Afghan government and all opposition parties.
Haq said that Pakistan and Afghanistan were linked together through eternal bonds of religion and they had common interests. He said that Pakistan's peace was dependent on peace in Afghanistan.
Pakistan, he said, wanted restoration of peace in Afghanistan as early as possible. He stressed upon the US to let the Afghans decide their affairs by themselves and withdraw from there immediately. He said that interference in the talks caused to the suspension of the talks. Speaking on the occasion, Umer Daudzai appreciated Pakistan's efforts for the solution of the Afghan issue. He said that Pakistan had always expressed sentiments of brotherhood and sympathy with the Afghans and the people of Afghanistan desired close brotherly ties with this country. --PR
