Auto sales decline by three percent in 1HFY19

The auto sales have declined by 3 percent in 1HFY19. According to Topline, the sales number to 120,066 units in 1HFY19, down by 3 percent YoY. This is the first time in 5 years that sales declined during the first half of a fiscal year since 1HFY13. The auto sales are up by 1 percent YoY in December 2018 as against 17 percent YoY decline in November 2018.
Indus Motors has recorded robust YoY growth of 16 percent led by 84 percent YoY and 10 percent YoY increase in Hilux and Corolla sales, respectively. On the other hand, Fortuner sales declined by 33 percent YoY. On a monthly basis, volumetric sales are down 3 percent while sales are up 8 percent YoY for 1HFY19 while the Indus Motors has been able to maintain its volumetric growth, despite the macroeconomic headwinds, Topline said.
The Honda sales fell by 26 percent YoY and 31 percent MoM while sales for 1HFY19 fell by 2 percent YoY. The YoY fall in sales in December 2018 was led by 50 percent YoY lower BR-V sales and 19 percent YoY lower sales of City and Civic units.
HCAR, which had been showing a robust trend in monthly sales up until October 2018, has started witnessing slowdown in sales where in past two months, the volumetric sales have cumulatively fallen by 24 percent YoY.
Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) has performed relatively better during the month of December 2018 where sales are a meagre up by 2 percent YoY, which were led by 32 percent YoY and 13 percent YoY increase in Cultus and Ravi sales, respectively. On the other hand, the sales of Wagon-R, Mehran, Bolan and Swift are down by 1 percent YoY, 5 percent YoY, 10 percent YoY and 7 percent YoY, respectively.
