Nawaz urges NAB to probe PM's sister

29 Nov, 2018

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) should investigate how Prime Minister Imran Khan's sister Aleema Khan purchased property in Dubai.
Talking to reporters informally inside the Accountability Court hearing corruption references against him, Sharif questioned with whose money Aleema Khan purchased property in Dubai. "What is the money trail of Aleema's property? How she purchased property worth billions of rupees in Dubai," Sharif further questioned. He said that Aleema has no source of income; therefore, the nation wants to know from where the money had come. She has only deposited fine. "Is it not National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)?" he asked. Aleema is also a member of Board of Governors of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, he added.
"I have never indulged in politics of abusing and using foul language. But I am forced to question how Aleema Khan made the property worth billions of rupees in Dubai," he said. Sharif said that he is still mourning the loss of his wife but giving a political statement after a long time without wanting to do so. "When I don't speak then it is considered that I have made comprise or availed an NRO," he said, adding if he had been interested in an NRO, he might have gone straight to jail from London.
The former prime minister said that he, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Muhammad Safdar (retd) remained in jail while his brother Shahbaz Sharif is still in jail. "I am in immense distress. Those who have served the country have been sent to jails. This reward is being given in return for services," he said.
He claimed, "We improved the country's economy, ended hours long load shedding and Pakistani market became an emerging market. We manufactured JF-17 Thunder in collaboration with China." He added that 100 days of the present government have been completed, adding that they (government) should tell the nation what they have done.
