The police arrested on Wednesday the guard of slain former Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Syed Ali Raza Abidi for interrogation.

Senior Superintendent (SSP) of district South Karachi, Pir Muhammad Shah, confirmed that the guard was taken into custody. Shah said that the guard belonged to Dera Ghazi Khan and was hired 2-3 months ago for the job, local media reported.

According to the SSP, instead of retaliating to the fire by the assailants, the guard went inside the house after the gunmen opened fire at the ex-MNA.

The former MQM-P leader was shot dead on Tuesday night by two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle. The gunmen opened fire at his car when he was entering his residence. The two unidentified persons escaped immediately after shooting him.

Abidi was taken to PNS Shifa hospital by his father, Akhlaq Abidi, where the ex-MNA succumbed to his injuries. According to medical reports, the former MQM-P MNA was shot four times, on his neck and chest. His funeral prayers will be held today after the afternoon prayers.
