NA passes resolution on rights of children and mothers National

The resolution was moved by Ms Mehnaz Akber Aziz, Member National Assembly from NA 77.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan read out the resolution in the house, acknowledging the World Children’s Day celebrated on the November 20, 2018, and Human Rights Day celebrated on the December 10, 2018.

The resolution was moved to recognize the rights of every child born in Pakistan as well as mothers with the resolve that state must ensure provision of the best available early care and safe environment for all children.

The importance of the first thousand days of every child’s life starting from conception were recognized as a unique period of opportunity for brain development and laying foundations of optimum health and future growth of children.

Improved mechanism for proper registration of all newborn children was pledged in the resolution. To protect the future of Pakistan, reduction of malnutrition in children and mothers and to fight the menace of stunted growth was committed.

It was also unanimously approved that all efforts will be made to ensure that all children are in school and learning well.

The right to safe drinking water and sanitation for all children and their mothers was also recognized. Merciless practices of the sale of children, internal human trafficking, child abuse, child pornography and prostitution was forcefully condemned and strong legislation to curb these inhuman and brutal offences were recommended.
