The Hang Seng Index gained 0.51 percent, or 129.89 points, to close at 25,753.42.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended 0.79 percent lower, or 20.02 points, to 2,516.25, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, lost 0.96 percent, or 12.44 points, to 1,284.66.
