Commissioner for effective security arrangements around churches on Christmas

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shalwani has directed security officials to ensure foolproof security arrangements around churches so that the Christian community could celebrate Christmas in a festive mood and with a sense of security.

He issued these directives at a meeting held under his chairmanship at his office to review the arrangements for Christmas, said a press release issued here on Saturday.

The meeting was attended among others by all Deputy Commissioners, Senior officials of police, KMC, DMCs, CTD, Traffic Police, Water and Sewerage Board and Assistant Commissioner General Commissioner Karachi office Aijaz Rind.

Member Provincial Assembly representing Christian community Anthony Naveed and religious and social leaders from the community including Father Saleh Diego, Father Mario Rodrigues, Father Ashir Iftikhar, Antony D Silva, Saleem Michael and Pervaiz Gill were also present on the occasion.

It was decided that all civic agencies would make special arrangements for ensuring cleanliness around the churches and also ensure that no sewerage problem takes place. He directed the DMCs to ensure installation of street lights as well.

Commissioner Shalwani also asked the K Electric to ensure uninterrupted electric supply to the churches as well as the neighborhoods on the occasion.
