The Supreme Court (SC) ordered on Thursday a 20 percent reduction in fee of private schools and directed them to return fee they had charged for summer vacations.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar took up the case related to exorbitant fee charged by private schools. The CJP has ordered all private schools to reduce their school fee by 20 percent. These directives by the SC are applicable to all those private schools whose fee are in excess of Rs5,000.

The chief justice has asked these private schools to return the fee they had charged for summer vacations within two months. The CJP warned that action would be taken against those schools who tries to shut down their schools. He also asserted that action would be taken against those schools who will not comply with the court's directives.

The top court also asked the Federal Bureau of Revenue to probe tax records of the directors of private schools. The bench then adjourned the hearing till December 26.
