SC uplifts ban on construction of buildings beyond six floors

11 Dec, 2018

Retracting its earlier decision to ban the construction of buildings with more than six storeys in Karachi, the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday gave the nod to builders, allowing them to complete their halted projects.

A plea by Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) against the top court's orders to ban constructions, was heard at the SC's Karachi Registry. The SC bench has allowed the builders to construct high-rise buildings 'according to the law', local media reported.

ABAD Chairman Hasan Bakhshi expressed his relief and said that due to the ban, 500 projects of theirs were halted. He said that after the lifting of the ban, the buildings will be constructed as per law.

Last year, the Sindh Building Control Authority stopped the construction  of high-rise buildings on the top court's orders.
