Many Facebook users recently expressed their confusion over a new bug that brought up years-old Messenger messages as new, unread ones.

Users have recently been seen complaining about their years old messages resurfacing automatically as new and unread ones on Facebook Messenger. Facebook later acknowledged the issue and was quick enough to take immediate action and solve it.

“Earlier today, some people may have experienced Facebook re-sending older messages. The issue, caused by software updates, has been fully resolved. We’re sorry for any inconvenience,” a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable.

Unless the user has deleted the message history between them and another user, Messenger retains the years back old messages and pops them up before the user all again. However, not everyone was affected by the bug. Nonetheless, users took to Twitter to express their concerns.
