Govt bringing about changes in LG system

LAHORE: Punjab Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakhat on Saturday said that the Pakistan Therek-e-Insaf (PTI) had been bringing about changes in local government system to improve service delivery by taking all stakeholders on board.

The minister expressed these remarks while addressing a pre-budget seminar held at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He said all stakeholders, including academia, researchers and experts, would be taken on board in policy making.

"Besides, the political leadership will ensure representation of the public besides strengthening the institutions is core focus of the PTI policies," he added.

Hashim Jawan Bakhat said the next eight months budget would be the corrective budget of the ongoing development schemes of the previous government while the Punjab government will keep holding such session to implement the 100-day agenda of the PTI.

He said that the policy making was a collective work in which educational institutions also played an equal role along with the public sector institutions. He instructed the chairman Planning and Development department to continue the discussions with the faculty members of the universities.

The faculty members, economists, students and other participants of the session pointed out loopholes in the government policies and bureaucratic hurdles in implementation of various policies, the minister said.
