Staffer accused of molesting girl at PIMS

A 22-year old paralysed girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a male nursing staffer at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad, officials said here on Monday. According to a spokesman for the PIMS, the girl, a resident of Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of PIMS hospital where the accident took place.
According to her parents, Krishan Kumar, a male nurse on duty, attacked her on Saturday night at around 2 AM. As soon as the parents found out, they informed the hospital administration in a written complaint, they added. According to hospital sources, the State Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry after getting the information has constituted a committee comprising three senior medical professors to probe the assault.
Dr Javed Akram, Vice Chancellor PIMS, said that following initial investigation "We learned that she was not raped and that it went as far as an attempt to rape." He added Krishan Kumar has been fired; an FIR has been registered against him in Margalla police station and further investigation is underway. Dr Javed Akram while talking to the media said that the authorities would pursue service termination of the culprit. He vowed to hold a complete investigation of the incident, saying that the hospital management was the complainant and the girl who was assaulted was just like his daughter. Akram also said changes will be made in the hospital's policies. "From now onwards, only female staff will attend female patients," he said. According to the parents of the female, no immediate action was taken against the culprit. While the accused person Kumar managed to escape the scene and remained at large until the filing of this report.
