Meezan Bank holds Shariah Supervisory Board meeting

The 26th full quorum Shariah Supervisory Board meeting of Meezan Bank was held on 19th March 2016 at Jamia Dar-ul-Uloom, Korangi, Karachi. The meeting was chaired by former Justice Muhammad Taqi Usmani. Other members of the Shariah Board include Sheikh Essam M. Ishaq (Bahrain) and Dr Muhammad Imran Ashraf Usmani. Senior management of Meezan Bank including the President and CEO Irfan Siddiqui, Deputy CEO Ariful Islam and Group Head of Corporate and Investment Banking Syed Amir Ali also attended the meeting.
The Shariah Board expressed satisfaction over Meezan Bank's Shariah-conformity and consistent growth. The Board also reviewed the summary of internal Shariah audit and expressed its appreciation of the mechanisms of the internal Shariah audit department of the bank. The Board was updated on the efforts of the Shariah Compliance department towards enhancement of staff knowledge through trainings and short courses, as well as workshops and seminars for enhancing awareness of the general public about Islamic banking. The Shariah Supervisory Board also put in place specific guidelines for syndicated transactions being managed by Meezan Bank.-PR
