Tax returns: LTBA seeks extension in deadline

01 Mar, 2016

Lahore Tax Bar Association (LTBA) Presidential Candidate and former Secretary General Aamir Qadeer has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the date for submission of tax returns as people could not done the same because of issue of imposition of withholding tax on banking transactions and issues with the functioning of IRS system.
He also called upon the government to remove the ambiguities in the Voluntary Tax Compliance Scheme (VTCS) so as to make it traders' friendly. He was of the view there were many complications and ambiguities in the scheme which would result in failure of this scheme instead of giving advantage to the exchequer and traders.
Speaking at the meeting of former presidents of the LTBA here on Monday, Aamir Qadeer said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) should understand the ground realities and know that revenue collection targets could not be achieved without facilitating the taxpayers. He said that tax collection system was very complicated which was causing damage to the national economy. He said policies should be enforced with consultation of the stakeholders but in our country situation was in total contrast.
