Voting for presidential election begins at Parliament, four provincial assemblies

Voting for the presidential elections commenced on Tuesday at the Parliament House, Islamabad and the four provincial assemblies.

The polling will continue till 4 in the evening. Members of  Senate, National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies will be voting simultaneously to elect Pakistan's 13th president. The polling will be done through secret balloting by the members, local media reported.

The ruling government Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominated Arif Alvi for the presidential elections whereas, the opposition parties remained divided and fielded two separate candidates. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) nominated Aitzaz Ahsan, whereas, the opposition parties fielded  Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

The current President Mamnoon Hussain's term will expire on September 9.

Additional Director General  of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Nadeem Qasim said that chief of ECP  will submit the results to federal government after which the government will announce the results.
