Message from Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael

06 Jan, 2016

It is a matter of immense pleasure for me to be a part of the centenary celebration of the grand building of Karachi Port Trust. The building bears historical importance and is a symbol of classical art and a national heritage of our country, Karachi Port Trust has indeed maintained this heritage building in a befitting manner since independence and hence my compliments to KPT Administration.
Unveiling an era of Imperial British Raj as well as facing various facets of developments since independence of Pakistan and remaining one of the strategically important port of region all the while is a moment for great achievement. We, as a nation take pride in our heritage assets and maintain them well for our next generations.
Pakistan today depends mostly on trade activities taking place through Karachi Port strategically situated to serve better the national trade. I would like to compliment Chairman KPT Vice Admiral Shafqat Jawed and his team at this juncture which marks the 100 years of KPT Head Office Building. This infrastructure and expertise has remained helpful in developing more ports and establishment of Port Qasim and Gwadar Port are two good examples. We are today on verge of transforming the success that we had in Port Qasim to Gwadar Port which will soon become fully functional under the Pakistan China Economic Corridor (PCEC. With the emergence of landlord Port concept world-wide the competition among the ports has gained immense momentum. Acquisition of technology has also become easy for the port authority which is very much required in running the affairs. KPT is already treading on this strategy. My best wished to KPT on this commemorated occasion & their successful furture.
