Dr Imran Farooq's murder case: physical remand of accused extended

29 Dec, 2015

Additional Sessions Judge of Islamabad District on Monday extended physical remand of three accused, allegedly involved in murder of former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq in London, to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for a week.
The Counterterrorism Wing of the FIA had registered a First Information Report against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, Muhammad Anwar, Iftikhar Hussain, Kashif Khan Kamran, Syed Mohsin Ali, Moazzam Ali and Khalid Shamim under the charges of conspiracy, assistance, abetment and ultimately assassination of Dr Imran Farooq in September 2010.
Producing three accused before the court in the matter, the FIA requested the court to extend physical remand of Muazzam Ali Khan, Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali Syed saying the Agency seeks 14-day remand of the accused for further interrogation of the case. Opposing the FIA request for physical remand of his client, Muazzam Ali Khan's counsel Shahid Kamal raised objection over the jurisdiction of the court in the current matter. However, turning down the FIA request for another 14-day physical remand of the three accused in the matter, the court extended the remand for a week.
