A First Information Report (FIR) registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in connection with Dr Imran Frooq murder case also includes the name of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain and two other senior leaders.
A senior official of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said the agency's counter terrorism wing (CTW) has registered an FIR against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, M. Anwar senior leader of MQM, Iftikhar Hussain, Moazzam Ali Khan, Khalid Shamim, Kashif Khan Kamran and Syed Mohsin Ali for conspiracy, assistance, abetment and ultimately assassination of Dr Imran Farooq on September 16, 2010 outside his residence in London.
He said the agency registered the case under Sections 202, 34,109,120 b and 7 of Anti Terrorism Act. The Government of Pakistan through CTW of FIA is the complainant in the case, he said.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in April this year had announced the arrest of main accused of Imran Farooq murder's case Moazzam Ali Khan. The suspect, Moazzam, was the alleged facilitator in Imran Farooq's murder and he had allegedly arranged visa, tickets and stay in the UK of the two suspected killers of MQM leader, he further said.
According to a security official, the two other suspects - Khalid Shamim and Syed Mohsin Ali - were arrested at the Pak-Afghan border when they were entering Pakistani territory from the Afghan side of the border in June this year.
However, sources said the two suspects - Mohsin Ali Syed and Kashif Ali - were taken into custody immediately after they landed at Karachi Airport from Sri Lanka but their arrests were not given legal cover due to which authorities earlier claimed that there is no record that these suspects were taken into custody. Sources further said that following interrogation of the two suspects, security agencies arrested Khalid Shamim at Karachi.
The decision to register an FIR against the accused in custody was announced by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on December 2 at a press conference. He said the decision to register an FIR in connection with Dr Imran Farooq's murder was taken in the light of an inquiry report prepared by the Scotland Yard team and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT). However, without naming MQM chief Altaf Hussain, he said the FIR will be registered against the accused in custody and others will be included in the FIR after the investigation.
