The Karachi Port handled 187,640 tonnes of cargo comprising 157,949 tonnes of import cargo and 29,691 tonnes of export cargo including 8,074 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 157,949 tonnes comprised of 63,911 tonnes of containerised cargo; 459 tonnes of general cargo; 20,892 tonnes of bulk cargo: 16,123 tonnes of DAP; 4,769 tonnes of SB meal and 72,687 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 29,691 tonnes comprised of 23,591 tonnes of containerised cargo and 6,100 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 8,074 containers comprising of 4,469 containers import and 3,605 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The break-up of imported containers shows 1,564 of 20's and 1,422 of 40's loaded while 23 of 20's and 19 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 685 of 20's and 255 of 40's loaded containers while 586 of 20's and 912 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were four ships namely Wieland, Sima Giselle, DL Violet and Itami carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels viz. A Idefix, Hyundai Confidence, Sea Delta, Carpe Diem-II and Itami carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely MT Quetta and Sira carrying oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Friday while two ships namely Wan Hai-503 and Carpe Diem-II carrying containers and oil tanker respectively are expected to sail on Saturday. There was one vessel viz. APL Germany carrying containers due to arrive on Friday while six vessels viz. Express Euphrates, Stolt Stream, BBC Delaware, Agata-M, Ken Wave and Ocean Gem carrying containers, oil tanker, project cargo, hot rolled coils anf general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
