Provision of 100,000 free bags of wheat seeds inaugurated

Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed has inaugurated provision of 100,000 free bags of wheat seeds to the farmers at Punjab Seed Corporation Sahiwal Plant. The minister while addressing on the occasion on Friday said, "PML-N government is farmer-friendly and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced a package of Rs 341 billion for the farmers and agriculture and process of transparent distribution among farmers has also been started."
In response to a question, he said that cultivation will be equal to a crop of 50,000,000 bags which will result in raising the living standard of the farmers and acquiring the target of self-sufficiency in wheat production. The government is implementing a package of billions of rupees to increase the agriculture production and reduce financial difficulties of the farmers, he added.
"Under this programme, seeds will be provided to wheat growers throughout the province as a result of which the target of increasing 30 maunds per acre wheat production from 70 to 80 maunds per acre will be achieved. Four bags of wheat seeds will be provided to one cultivator of every village who will provide pure seeds to other farmers of his village on the preparation of crop. The target of government is to increase the production of wheat to 100 maunds per acre for which clean and healthy seeds are of very importance," the minister said.
He also said subsidised amount of Rs 40 billion was being distributed among farmers of rice and cotton to compensate their financial losses. At the end of the function, bags were distributed among the cultivators. Those also present were Punjab Seed Corporation Managing Director Khaqan Babar, Agriculture Managing (Extension) Director General Muhammad Anjam Ali, Punjab Seed Corporation Deputy Managing Director Aslam Nasir and farmers.
