Following a defeat in by-elections in NA-122 Lahore, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is evolving a three-pronged strategy against the alleged vote rigging. According to sources, PTI is debating three options, first to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan, and in the event that its grievances are not addressed appropriately to take the matter to court; the party is also considering protesting against vote rigging.
PTI has written a letter to the ECP with proof of large-scale vote transfer from NA-122. The PTI claims voter lists were changed at the fag-end, thereby transferring several thousand voters out of the constituency. When contacted, Shafqat Mehmood of PTI said the party has written a letter to the ECP with proof of transfer of votes from NA-122. "The party is formulating its strategy in the event that the ECP does not take any action against vote rigging," he said.
When contacted, Dr Arif Alvi of PTI said that "first we would adopt legal way and approach the court to get justice against vote rigging in by-election NA-122 Lahore." He said votes were transferred from NA-122 on a large-scale and in this regard, the party is getting affidavits from the aggrieved voters. "We will file a petition in the court with sufficient proof of vote rigging in by-election," he said.
