LB elections: PTI Karachi demands Rangers' deployment

03 Nov, 2015

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi Organiser Ali Zaidi Monday demanded deployment of Pakistan Rangers presence inside and outside all polling stations for the remaining two rounds of local body elections.
"The recently concluded first round of local body elections on Saturday in both Sindh and Punjab was marred by violence and death with the police in both provinces looking helpless or turning a blind eye to the bloodshed. To avoid such carnage in the remaining two rounds of local body polls and to ensure transparency and fair play, PTI Karachi demands that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) deploy Pakistan Rangers both inside and outside every polling station", he added.
Zaidi further mentioned that again the ECP stands exposed once again of its own mismanagement and incompetence in administering free and fair elections in Pakistan. "Democracy and elections should be a battle of ideas and policies not a blood sport. On polling day, we should be counting votes not dead bodies. ECP once again failed to create a peaceful environment on election day so the voters could cast their vote without fear", he said.
