The Supreme Court on Tuesday suspended two rulings of Lahore High Court regarding suspension of Election Commission of Pakistan's code of conduct for election campaigns. The apex court also restored the decision of (ECP) that restrains the parliamentarians from running election campaigns. A three member bench headed by Justice Saqib Nisar heard the case against Lahore High Court's verdict on suspending ECP's code of conduct.
The counsel for ECP argued that judgement of Lahore High Court (LHC) in this regard was an intervention in the jurisdiction of the SC as decision was made without issuing notice to Attorney General. He said the LHC allowed parliamentarians for election campaigns while the ECP issued code of conduct and banned all parliamentarians from election campaigns. He stated that LHC issued verdict against the ECP code of conduct which is an intervention in the affairs of the Commission. The court suspended the LHC judgment and referred the case beck to LHC for review and also directed to decide the matter in one month. As per detail, LHC had declared the two notifications banning the MPs from running election campaigns of ECP, null and void; therefore ECP had moved the Supreme Court.
