Village, neighbourhood councils: KP chief minister cancels recruitment process

03 Oct, 2015

Taking strong note of the complaints about favouritism and irregularities committed in recruitment of village and neighbourhood councils' secretaries, the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has ordered to immediately cancel the ongoing recruitment process. He also directed the provincial inspection team to conduct inquiry into the illegal appointments of village and neighbourhood councils' secretaries made in six districts of the province and present report within one week.
According to details it was brought into notice of the Chief Minister during a meeting of the Local Government department that appointments of village councils' secretaries were being made on the basis of discretionary numbers, awarded to the candidates by members of the recruitment committees in addition to NTS test results. The Chief Minister was informed that recruitment in six districts has been finalised following the criteria of discretionary numbers.
The Chief Minister termed the discretionary favour of the candidates totally against the spirit of merit policy and ordered that all such appointments be made purely on the basis of NTS test result and qualification only. He, therefore, ordered cancellation of the whole ongoing recruitment process and directed the Local Government department to re-advertise the posts of village secretaries and ensure to fill all the posts by strictly following the merit policy and procedure of the provincial government which provides for NTS test and qualification only and does not authorise the appointment committee to award any discretionary numbers to the candidate.
