Newly-elected MPAs take oath at Sindh, Balochistan and KP assemblies

13 Aug, 2018

The inaugural sessions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh and Balochistan assemblies commenced on Monday as the newly-elected members of the provincial assemblies took oath.

The assembly sessions began with the respective speakers administering oath to the newly-elected MPAs. All the sessions took place amid high security. The Punjab Assembly has called its session on August 15.

The KP assembly was underway when the members of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, Pakistan Peoples Party and Awami National Party staged a walkout during the oath-taking. The members were wearing black bands on their arms as a sign of protest over the terrorist violence that preceded the July 25 elections, local media reported. They, however, re-entered the assembly after the walkout and were administered the oath separately.

The session was presided by Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sardar Aurangzeb Nalota, who was appointed by the KP governor as a replacement of outgoing speaker Asad Qaiser. The outgoing speaker was being sworn in as an MNA at the Parliament House.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Assembly session went smoothly, where outgoing speaker Agha Siraj Durrani administered oath to the new MPAs. The oath was administered in Urdu, Sindhi and English. In Balochistan Assembly, new MPAs were administered oath by Speaker Rahila Hamid Khan Durrani.

On the other hand, the 15th National Assembly session was also held on Monday morning at the Parliament House. The newly elected MNAs were administered oath by outgoing NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
