No magisterial cover: CDA fails to shift cattle market to Sec I-12/2

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Monday failed to shift sacrificial animals market from sector I-11 to sector I-12/2 due to lack of proper magisterial cover. A CDA official said that following the directives of Islamabad High Court (IHC), the civic body has devised a plan to shift illegal cattle market from sector I-11 to sector I-12. "The CDA teams tried their best to shift the market but hundreds of people who brought their animals staged protest and resisted the CDA move," he added.
He said the CDA high-ups on Sunday directed the authorities concerned to take strict action in collaboration with Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration and city police for shifting cattle market to its designated area in sector I-12/2. The authority has devised a special plan in consultation with ICT administration.
The official said these directions were passed during a meeting attended by the director general (administration), director municipal administration, director enforcement, director security, officers of Islamabad capital administration, Islamabad police and CDA. He said the meeting had decided that CDA enforcement and environment teams would carry out operation with the support of the ICT administration and Islamabad police but the civic body on Monday failed to uproot the illegal market.
The meeting also asked the CDA's security directorate to patrol the city and deploy enforcement officials along with police at the entry points of the city for security purposes. The meeting also directed them to check overcharging and that the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) would maintain a record of receipts from the cattle market. The CDA last year held the cattle market in I-11. This year it was awarded Rs 10 million contract to establish a makeshift cattle market in I-12.
