Police on Monday informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan that 3,400 personnel and officers of Sindh police are involved in criminal activities. SC bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Amir Hani Muslim conducted the hearing of case in Supreme Court's Karachi registry. On Monday's hearing, police's counsel submitted its report regarding involvement of police officers and personnel of the department in criminal activities, and actions taken against them.
According to police report, 3,400 police personnel are involved in criminal activities but so far departmental action has been taken against only 1,400 of them. The report went on to say that these personnel were involved in extortion, land grabbing and other offences as well as harbouring criminals of Lyari gang war and anti-social elements of political parties.
According to report, the cops were also involved in allowing selling of illegal Iranian diesel and making of fake Computerised National Identity cards for foreigners, and taking bribes. SC directed Additional Attorney General (AAG) Sindh to form a scrutiny committee to scrutinise the report submitted by the police. AAG recommended Additional Inspector General A.D. Khwaja, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sanaullah Abbasi and DIG Sultan Khwaja as the members of scrutiny committee.
