EBM takes major decisions: NAB to file reference against Jamil Mandhro, others

The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the chairmanship of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB at NAB Headquarters. The following decisions were made during the meeting. The meeting decided to file a reference against Badar Jamil Mandhro, Ex-Secretary, Minorities Affairs Department, Government of Sindh and others.
In this case, the accused persons allegedly misused the authority by illegal appointments in grade 17 to 18 in the Minorities Affairs Department, Government of Sindh, thus causing loss to the exchequer. The EBM authorised complaint verification against Haji Muhammad Nawaz Kakar, Ex-Minister, Balochistan Development Authority (BDA), Saddat Anwar Qambarani, Ex-Chairman BDA, Bismillah Kakar, GM Tendering, BDA, Quetta and others. In this case, the accused persons allegedly received kickbacks from the contractors of BDA, Illegal bank transactions and Benami assets.
The meeting decided to re-authorise two inquiries. First inquiry was reauthorize against officials of Galiyat Development Authority (GDA), KP namely Sardar Muhammad Idrees, ex-minister and other beneficiaries. In this case, the accused were allegedly found involved in corruption, corrupt practices in the allotment of plots in Galiyat Development Authority (GDA), thus causing a loss of Rs 51.756 million to the exchequer.
The second inquiry was reauthorize against officers/officials of Pepco/Pesco. Owners of Al-Moiz Sugar Mill, Dera Ismail Khan and others namely Munawar Baseer Ahmad, Ex-MD, PEPCO, Brigadier Sakhi Marjan (R), Ex-CEO, PESCO and Nouman Ahmad Khan, MD, Al-Moiz Industry. In this case, the accused persons allegedly misused authority, and were involved in corruption in illegal sale and purchase of electricity. The EBM also decided to approve Voluntarily Return request of Arbab Saadullah Khan, Ex-MNA/Ex-Chairman, PMC of Rs 8,471,780 regarding misappropriation/embezzlement of government funds in plots scam of fruit and vegetable market, Peshawar. Out of total loss of Rs 130 million to State Rs 120.5 million stands recovered.
The EBM also decided to close a Complaint Verification against Ali Madad Jattak, Ex-Minister, Food Department, Balochistan, close inquiry against Khurshid Alam, Ex-IG Northern Areas and no further action in a complaint verification against authorities of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University, Quetta and others due to lack of incriminating evidence. In a complaint against unlawful amalgamation of KASB Bank Limited into BankIslami Pakistan Ltd, the EBM decided to link it with instant case with the ongoing inquiry at NAB Karachi. It also decided to authorise inquiry against M/s Zahid Traders for willful default of Rs 281.574 million referred by the State Bank of Pakistan under section 31-D of NAO 1999.-PR
