The Karachi Port handled 117,591 tonnes of cargo comprising 99,523 tonnes of import cargo and 18,068 tonnes of export cargo including 2,861 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 99,523 tonnes comprised of 25,877 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,127 tonnes of general cargo; 36,532 tonnes of bulk cargo: 24,800 tonnes of coal; 5,610 tonnes of DAP; 6,122 tonnes of SB meal and 31,987 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 18,068 tonnes comprised of 16,268 tonnes of containerised cargo and 1,800 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 2,861 containers comprising of 1,572 containers import and 1,289 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The break-up of imported containers shows 802 of 20's and 319 of 40's loaded while 24 of 20's and 54 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 324 of 20's and 387 of 40's loaded containers while 67 of 20's and 62 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were four ships namely PAC Aries, Osam Jumbo-5, Bofors and DL Pansy carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were three vessels viz. PAC Aries, Bahamas and Otzias carrying containers and coal respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Al Mahboobah, JS Colorado and Sharif Pioneer carrying chemical, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while five ships namely Ever Radiant, Atlantic Gemini, Nave Atropos, Dato Success and Ikan Prang carrying containers, oil tankers, steel and coal respectively are expected to sail on Friday.
There were three vessels viz. Chang Hang Bin, Bulk Paraiso and Peace Angel carrying steel respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while six vessels viz. SSL Chennai, APL Agate, YM Enlightenment, SC Liaoning, Sunrise Eco and Mariner carrying containers, chemical, oil tanker and DAP respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
