Budgetary allocations in Balochistan: SAT members hail effort towards creating awareness among people

Members of Social Audit Team (SAT) constituted for 19-month long initiative for creating awareness among the local population of Balochistan regarding budgetary allocation for various public departments on Wednesday claimed that the programme was very effective for bringing awareness among the people regarding budgetary allocation, therefore, such types of project would be launched in the province.
The initiative, titled "Public Participation for Good Governance and Accountability in Balochistan," started in March 2014 with the intention of sensitising the citizens of 13 districts of Balochistan regarding their respective districts' budget allocations in the areas of health, education, infrastructure, law and order and women development.
The three-member Social Audit Teams (SATs) constituted for analyzing allocated budgets of their respective districts stated this during an exposure visit to the German Embassy.
Muhammad Hashim Kakar, a member of the SAT team, said that the project has played a vital role in sensitising general public about budgetary allocations, therefore, such types of initiatives should be extended to the other districts of the province.
Another member Hayat ullah Shaheen said that the exposure visit and the project was a great learning opportunity for him as he learned a lot during meetings with senior journalists in the German embassy. Individuals and Pakistan, a research-based consultancy firm started the initiative titled "Public Participation for Good Governance and Accountability in Baluchistan" aiming at sensitizing the local populace of thirteen (13) districts of Baluchistan including Quetta, Pishin, Ziarat, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Chaghai, Kharan, Awaran, Dera Bugti, Dera Murad Jamali, Jhal Magsi and Mastung regarding district budget allocations in five areas including health, education, infrastructure, law and order and women development.-PR
