Public schools 'work on dilapidated buildings will start soon'

Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal has told district co-ordination officers that construction work of dilapidated buildings of public schools will shortly start. His instruction as he chaired a top-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Monday.
The chief secretary told his audience, "All available resources are being provided for improvement in the education sector and the construction of dilapidated buildings of the schools will start forthwith as funds have been released for it." He directed that all possible measures be taken for achieving targets of enrolment campaign in schools, warning that no negligence would be tolerated. He also said, "Education is key to progress and prosperity and the Punjab Government is paying special attention to this important sector."
He then ordered for stepping up a crackdown on sale of unwholesome meat, saying, "The sale of unhygienic and defile meat will not be tolerated." The meeting also drew in secretaries of the Schools Education and Food Departments, who gave a detailed briefing, the senior member of the Board of Revenue, his departments' counterparts, the Punjab Food Authority director general, Lahore's commissioner and his district coordination officer.
