Thinking of police: reporting room depicts real changes: KP IGP

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Khan Durrani has said that establishment of Police Reporting Room depicts the real changes in thinking, behaviour and priorities of police. This he said while presenting welcome address during the inaugural ceremony of police Reporting Room at police station Sharqai Peshawar Monday.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak was the chief guest on the occasion. Provincial Ministers, Members Provincial Assembly, Members DRCs, Chambers of Commerce Cantt, representatives of NGO Rozan, high ranking police officers and media men largely attended the function.
The police chief informed that reporting rooms were being established to restore the dignity of the common man and give them honour and respect seeking solution of their problems at Thana level. The IGP informed that common man was the focus of the police efforts as they have offered unprecedented sacrifices for the establishment of the country but were kept deliberately deprived of the flavour of that independence.
The IGP also referred to the book of prominent Urdu intellectual of the country by saying "that no doubt we have got economic independence beside other freedom and the real independence was the restoration of the dignity and self respect of the common man but unfortunately the dignity of the common men are being traumatised everywhere".
The IGP further went on to say that within six decades the British ruler was being replaced by the local Waderas and they have further rubbed salt to the injuries of the common people. The police chief pointed out that Reporting Rooms were the parts of those projects which are being established for restoration of the dignity and self respect of the common man.
He further went on to say that the old police stations of the province had become ghost houses, out of 270 police stations, 147 police stations were in extremely dilapidated condition and reporting room are being built to change thana culture as the Reporting Room was the first place where the common man interact with the police.
He said that with the establishment of the Reporting Room the common man will feel and find friendly environment for solution of their confronting problems. The IGP further informed that the staff of the Reporting Rom had been trained by NGO Rozan and they have been imparted necessary training how to deal with and help the complainant by winning their hearts and minds through better public dealing and hoped that the complainant must be impressed with the behaviour and dealing of the staff.
