Partly Facetious: Gate's wealth in our local perspective

08 Aug, 2015

"Bill Gates leads the Forbes list as the richest man in the world with an estimated 79.6 billion dollars."
"My God that's nearly double what was budgeted as federal government expenditure, more than double the budgeted total tax collections estimated at 33.5 billion dollars and if non tax revenue is included then Gates' wealth is nearly double the projected total revenue collections for the ongoing year at 42 billion dollars."
"It's good to see Gate's wealth in our local perspective."
"Why? Because it makes one understand that one man alone can do so much better in terms of generating money than the efforts of our government?"
"Good heavens no it just explains why certain individuals who shall remain nameless are continuing to engage in shall we economic activities of a controversial nature as their focus is to compete with Gates."
"You referring to ongoing corruption aren't you?"
"That's the problem with you, you are so gauche, and need I add the Sindh Chief Minister may be compelled to write yet another letter of complaint to the federal government ....oh wait you are a private citizen, so perhaps Qaim Ali Shah would take you to court for defamation."
"Don't be facetious. My suggestion to you is to look at the existing wealth of individual Pakistanis and back off from criticizing them for merely competing in the world markets."
"We aren't talking exports you silly chap, we are talking wealth where no tax is paid to the Federal Board of Revenue and..."
"Hey the FBR also includes withholding tax as an outcome of its efforts and we all know that withholding agents collect this tax."
"Hey we take credit wherever we can."
"Indeed we do and perhaps it's time to stop taking credit where it's not."
"All I can say in response is welcome to the land of the pure."
