Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) remained open on Sunday to observe anti dengue day. A seminar for awareness about dengue held in the seminar hall. Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Uzma Qureshi chaired the event. All the Deans, Directors, the faculty, the students and Senior Administration attended the seminar. Posters and Banners were displayed on the campus as constant reminders and a wakeup call for everyone. It was briefed in the seminar that all campus was fumigated.
Dr Farkhanda Manzoor, an eminent entomologist and Head of Zoology Department, LCWU, gave an insightful and informative presentation on Dengue growth and prevention. She gave a resume of what the LCWU Dengue Control Team has done for the eradication of Dengue. She also talked about the hazardous effects of insecticides and how only the WHO recommended insecticides are to be used and are being used under strict monitoring at LCWU. LCWU maintains a regular check on Dengue through its team.
Dr Afifa Khanaum, in her presentation, stressed the need to take measures for the control and presentation of Dengue. She gave a detailed presentation on the subject. She stressed how awareness about the disease goes a far way in preventing the disease.
Dr Hafsa, the Chief Medical Officer of LCWU, gave an informative talk about Dengue symptoms, treatment and community awareness, followed by a Question / Answer Session. She informed the audience that a training camp is regularly set in the Health Center of LCWU from March to December each year to create awareness about preventive measures against Dengue. She also raised awareness about clearing the stagnant water immediately as it is the perfect breeding ground for Dengue.
Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Uzma Qureshi, in her address, laid emphasis on the importance of institutional and individual responsibility for vigilance and preventive measures against Dengue. She expressed her satisfaction over the measures taken by the Dengue control team at LCWU. She also stressed on the collective, individual and professional responsibility of teachers as well as students to raise awareness about Dengue in the community at large. She appreciated the efforts of the Dengue team of LCWU. She thanked the Government of Punjab for its constant support and efforts at reminding the Higher Education Institutions about their responsibilities regarding the issue, and its active part in preventing, controlling and eradicating Dengue.
