163 Indian fishermen freed

03 Aug, 2015

Pakistani prison authorities on Sunday released as many as 163 Indian fishermen, including a teenager, from the city's Landhi jail. The Indian fishermen were languishing in the jail for the last one year on the charges of violating limits of Pakistan's maritime border.
Terming the release of Indian fishermen a `sign of goodwill gesture', an official said that it was the outcome of a meeting held between the prime ministers of both Pakistan and India on the sidelines of Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) Summit held recently in Ufa. Both Nawaz Sharif Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi had also agreed to resume dialogue process to help resolve their bilateral issues.
The Indian prisoners' release would pave the way for both the countries to move ahead with their plan of resuming their stalled talks for peace in the region, the official opined.
