PPP to support traders' strike call

30 Jul, 2015

Pakistan Peoples Party has announced to support the traders' shutter down call on August 01, against unjustified withholding tax and vowed to take part in traders' protest across the country. The PPP alleged that PML-N has failed not only in Punjab but also across the country.
While talking to journalists here at his residence on Wednesday, South Punjab PPP senior vice chairman and senior lawyer Barrister Haider Zaman Qureshi lambasted the unjustified withholding tax, saying the tax cannot be imposed on peasants at any level. The PPP would fight against its imposition at peasants. The withholding tax would have an extremely adverse impact on the national economy, he mentioned. The imposition of withholding tax on bank transaction has also triggered protests by traders across the country and PPP would not leave traders alone in protests against unjustified tax. The tax filers would not be spared, he added.
The traders are paying 70 other taxes and the government was implementing all the taxes because it had taken loans worth billions of dollars from the International Monetary Fund at the cost of increasing tax burden filling bank accounts, he maintained. Barrister Haider Zaman Qureshi said the PML-N and PTI understanding developed soon after singing the memorandum of understanding at the cost of not presenting the rigging proofs in Judicial Commission. The PTI has injected oxygen in the dying and crumbling PML-N government. He said Imran Khan has just wasted the precious time of nation due to his immature politics.
Barrister Haider Zaman Qureshi said the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is holding major ministries under his personal control, which is the negation to good governance. He criticised PML-N tall claims of changing the Punjab and Pakistan. Nothing has been changed in Pakistan as people are seeking relief against devastating flood, schools without buildings and health centres without doctors in Punjab.
He said Punjab CM has focused only one city in the province and ignoring the other districts including South Punjab and discriminating people there. He said that people of South Punjab have demanded new province because the Punjab government spent all the development funds in Lahore. He said Metro Bus service project is being criticised because it consumed huge development funds. He said the Punjab government spent Rs 120 billion on a single road in Lahore.
