Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Shoaib Khurram Janbaz on Monday advised tourists to avoid visiting the Murree for few days due to unprecedented rush of motorists at the hill station, one of the most attractive picnic spots. "Since first day of Eid, more than 1,00,000 vehicles have entered Murree, leaving no parking space for more. The situation forced the CTP to apply filter at different entry points of Murree under which motorcyclists making stunts and other non-serious visitors are being returned, "the CTO while talking to media men.
The 'Filter' is aimed at avoiding unpleasant incidents with tourists especially visiting along with their families, he said, adding that traffic wardens were sending back 'disturbing elements' coming from other cities at four entry points, including Bhara Kahu, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa link roads. At the entry points, the CTO said, the motorists were being explained in a polite manner about overflowing number of vehicles and a "house full" situation in Murree, with a request to return back for avoiding inconvenience.
He said there was capacity of parking 10,000 vehicles on different roads of Murree and the number of vehicles entered the Murree so far was almost ten times higher. "The traffic is moving at a snail's pace and the vehicles are heading bumper-to-bumper. He said traffic police were performing their duties with full strength in a highly professional manner to ensure smooth flow of traffic at the roads leading to the hill station. He said all-out efforts were being made to extend maximum facilities and guidance to the people spending their Eid holidays in Murree.
