Vicaut dips under 10sec to storm to French title

12 Jul, 2015

Jimmy Vicaut stormed to his second French national 100m title on Saturday to maintain his impressive form ahead of next month's world championships in Beijing. The 23-year-old, who last week equalled the European record of 9.86sec, got off to a good start and powered on from 50 metres through the line in 9.92 seconds to beat off rival Christophe Lemaitre (10.07sec).
The winning time was the second fastest in French history, matching the former national record set by Lemaitre in 2011, the last time the latter dipped under 10 seconds. Vicaut had already been crowned national champion in 2013 but was injured last year. Emmanuel Biron took third in 10.20sec behind Lemaitre, whose time qualified him for the August 22-30 world champs in Beijing.
