A local court on Wednesday released 12 employees of the Axact Company on bail in a fake degree case. Additional District and Sessions judge Shah Rukh Arjumand granted bail to the Axact employees against a surety bond of Rs 100,000 each. Earlier, the court had granted bail to 5 Axact officials in the same case last week. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) during the first week of June arrested 17 officials and produced them before the judicial magistrate.
As per investigation officer the accused were booked for fraud, cheating, impersonation and money laundering offences. The accused were allegedly selling fake degrees and transferring 'ill-gotten' money to Pakistan through off-shore companies. Axact employees claimed they were not a part of decision making but were working on junior positions. Raja Rizwan Abbasi, the counsel for Axact company, told the court that the case against his client company was politically motivated and the FIA has no evidence against the detained officials; he further claimed that the case was registered to damage the company's repute within the country and internationally.
