PDWP Punjab approves Greater Iqbal Park Lahore project

The Provincial Development Working Party Punjab has approved development scheme of Urban Development Sector titled "Greater Iqbal Park Lahore project" with an estimated cost of Rs 1.335 billion. This scheme was approved in the Special meeting of Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of current fiscal year 2015-16 presided over by the Punjab Chairman P&D Board Muhammad Irfan Elahi.
P&D Member Private Sector Development Wing Farasat Iqbal, Member Infrastructure Development Dr Abid Bodla, Member Services Sector Muhammad Ijaz Hussain, Member Public Private Partnership Agha Waqar Javed, Director General(M&E) Dr Sajjad Mubeen, Director General PHA Mian Shakeel Ahmad, Joint Chief Economist P&DD Dr Amanullah, Senior Chief Urban Development Sector Aslam Javed, Director PERI P&D, Representatives of Housing & Finance Departments and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
It may be added that the master plan of the "Greater Iqbal Park Project includes renovation and landscaping of Minar-i-Pakistan and the additional area of Circular Gardens. The landscaping of the entire project in modern and old style will be carried out while a lake will also be developed in GIP. It will be monumental in projecting the Pakistan Movement and its historical significance. The park would have a museum to highlight various phases of the Pakistan Movement. It will carry pictures and memorabilia of the heroes of the movement. Special programmes about the aims and objectives of the movement will be held in the museum as well.
There will be recreational facilities for visitors at the park, including a train ride and a horse buggy tour while separate place will be allocated for children for playing and an open air gym will be set up in the park that would also depict culture and heritage of Lahore. A separate authority is being set up to oversee its implementation of the project in a transparent manner.
