The Karachi Port handled 154,630 tonnes of cargo comprising 124,578 tonnes of import cargo and 30,052 tonnes of export cargo including 3,985 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 124,578 tonnes comprised of 30,917 tonnes of containerised cargo; 8,149 tonnes of general cargo; 20,596 tonnes of bulk cargo: 13,000 tonnes of coal; 4,287 tonnes of DAP; 3,309 tonnes of soyabean meal and 64,916 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 30,052 tonnes comprised of 11,647 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,989 tonnes of bulk cargo: 589 tonnes of cement; 10,166 tonnes of iron powder and 7,650 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,985 containers comprising of 2,229 containers import and 1,756 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The breakup of imported containers shows 721 of 20's and 721 of 40's loaded while 4 of 20's and 31 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 184 of 20's and 265 of 40's loaded containers while 428 of 20's and 307 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely PAC Aries, ER Helgoland, Northern Power, HS Marco Polo, PAC Aries and KSL Anyang carrying containers and steel respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Ever Radiant, Cosco Kobe, Sea Crystal, Margarita, Hermione and Trans Spring carrying containers, oil tankers and steel respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely Nasco Gem and Hong Tiger carrying general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while four ships namely Ever Radiant, Cosco Kobe, Margarita and Hermione carrying containers and oil tankers are expected to sail on Saturday. There were two vessels viz. Portofino and Southern Ibis carrying containers and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Friday, while four vessels viz. APL Arabia, ER Helgoland, MT Lahore and Navios Armonia carrying containers, oil tanker and DAP respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
