KP IGP directs suspension of officials involved in rigging

04 Jun, 2015

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Khan Durrani has directed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) that police officials found involved in transgressing their authority in violation of election code of conduct on polling day should be suspended with immediate effect. It may be recalled that few candidates who have contested the local bodies' election have alleged in their statements that some of the police officials supported their opponents during polling.
The police chief took strong exception of these allegations and directed the RPOs and DPOs in a circular issued from CPO Wednesday to probe these serious allegations in a proper manner. They were further directed to contact the local leadership and ask them if they have any proof and video footage they must share it with police for further enquiry. The circular further added that in case the police officers are seen transgressing their authority in violation of election code of conduct they should immediately be placed under suspension and charge sheeted for major penalty. They have further been directed that action taken in the matter be sent to IGP through Additional IGP Operations on daily basis.
