Lack of quorum disrupts KP PA proceeding

20 May, 2015

Lack of quorum once again disrupted the proceeding of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and the proceeding was adjourned for a period of two days. KP Assembly on Tuesday resumed proceeding after a break of six days with speaker, Asad Qaiser in the chair. However, after the recitation of Holy Qur'aan only four members were present in the house.
The members present in the house were included Gohar Nawaz Khan (QWP), Akbar Hayat Khan (PML-N), Qurban Ali and Arif Khan Ahmadzai of PTI. Gohar Nawaz Khan through a point of order pointed out the lack of quorum in the house on which the Speaker directed the ringing of bells for a period of two minutes. But, even after the resuming of the proceeding the house was not found in order and the Speaker had to adjourn the proceeding of the house till Friday (May 22).
The Speaker while adjourning the proceeding of the house issued directives to all members for ensuring their attendance in the house, saying that till completion of the quorum, he could not continue the proceeding.
It was second consecutive time that the same month when the provincial assembly could not resumed proceeding due to lack of quorum. The house has faced the same situation on May 12, when the house failed to resume proceeding and adjourned till Tuesday.
