Space images always leave viewers in awe and we just can’t take eyes off a recent stunning image of our moon captured by an astronaut in space.

European Space Agency’s (ESA) astronaut Alexander Gerst has been aboard the International Space Station (ISS) for his ‘Horizons’ mission. Instead of snapping pictures of Earth from up above, Gerst moved his camera to our moon to show the beauty of the celestial body.

The beautiful lunar portrait shows off the moon partially covered in darkness with a blue glow, which seems to be originating from Earth which is not shown in the picture, described CNET.

Blood Moon next month to be the longest of the century

The picture was released by the ESA along with a post describing how moon has lately been the subject of focus for human exploration. Planning to put humans on moon, ESA said, “With resources to create fuel and sustain a research base looking promising, the Moon could in the longer term become a stopover on our way to Mars and even a habitat in itself within decades.”

Moreover, Gerst have also focused on snapping pictures of Earth, having a view similar to that of our neighboring Red Planet.
